Kerstin von Gabain’s slide installation We Will Never Miss shows backdrops, trucks, printed banners, power sets, loudspeakers and T-shirts belonging to people attending so-called free parties. The symbolism that appears here suggests that techno fans identify with a somber post-industrial scenario. Since the end of the 1990s, Kerstin von Gabain has gone to illegally-organized techno raves and documented them with analog and digital snapshots. The photos at first served served as a visual archive for her artistic work. Taken in the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Austria, and Germany, the pictures provided the basis for drawings and animations or visuals for parties. From 2005 to 2007, the artist, who had herself stopped being part of the scene, documented the activities of people who created auto nomous spaces for themselves outside commercial entertainment culture by appropriating abandoned industrial ruins.
